We’ve listed some of the questions we’re often asked by guests who’ve stayed at Storrs Gate House. Please feel free to contact us however should you still have questions about your forthcoming stay with us.

What are your check-in & check-out times and what time is breakfast?

We aim to have rooms ready by 12.00 noon. We are unable to accommodate late evening arrivals. Latest check-out is 10.30am. If rooms are not ready when you arrive, you may register and leave your bags which will be placed in your room ready for your return. Breakfast is served between 8.30am and 9.00am.

Do you have any smoking rooms? Are pets accepted?

We are totally non-smoking. We regret we are unable to accept any pets other than service dogs.

Where is the closest railway station?

Windermere station is approximately 2 miles away. Oxenholme station (Kendal) is the gateway to the Lake District. The TransPennine Express service to Windermere stops at Kendal, Burneside, Staveley and Windermere. There is a taxi rank at Windermere station.

How far is it to walk to the nearest village/restaurant/shops etc?

A 10-15 minute easy stroll will take you into Bowness-on-Windermere. There is a lakeside path which can be reached within a few minutes and which takes you along the lakeshore with stunning views. Torches are advisable for roadside walking after dark – we can provide these.

Do you have disabled/wheelchair access/ground floor rooms?

The house is accessible to wheelchairs and we have two ground floor rooms which may be accessed via a separate ramped entrance.

Do you cater for Vegetarians?

Yes, we have vegetarian options on our breakfast menu.

Do you have off road car parking?

Yes, there is a parking space for every room, at the front of the house.

Do you have lake views?

Whilst the lake is across the road, we are opposite Windermere Marina and the trees prevent us from having lake view. Glimpses of the lake can be seen through the trees in the winter, from two of our rooms. The lake can be reached within a few minutes walk.

What facilities do the rooms have?

En-suite power shower, hot drink making facilities, central heating, chairs, satellite TV, DVD player, radio alarm clock, hairdryer (full-size), luxury toiletries by The White Company, bath sheets, hand towels, face towels. Use of iron/ironing board on request.

Is there a guest lounge/bar?

There is a lounge for guests to use, however this does not have a television. We do not have a bar, although we are able to offer a reasonably priced wine list and a small selection of drinks.

How can I make my stay extra special?

With advance notice we can arrange Champagne, wine, flowers or chocolates to be placed in your room. (We regret we are unable to offer breakfast in your room.)

Do you have family rooms/accept children?

We are unable to offer family rooms – four rooms are king-size four posters, two rooms are king-size doubles and one may be offered as twin beds or linked to form a superking. We regret, as we aspire to offer a relaxed and quiet atmosphere to our adult guests, and have had a number of guests request this – we now aim at an adults only policy.

Are the bedrooms available to us all day?

We valet your rooms between close of breakfast service and 12.00 noon and therefore ask for access between those times. You are free to come and go as you wish during the course of your stay.
